Glass Becomes Art

$20 Members, $25 Non-Members

Please join us for what promises to be a very interesting talk by Mary Cheek Mills. She will address how artists such as Emile Gallé and Louis Comfort Tiffany began to use glass as a medium for artistic expression in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. By successfully moving beyond function, these artists and others laid the groundwork for early studio glass.

Mary Mills directs the educational programs of The Corning Museum of Glass and teaches European and American glass for graduate programs in decorative arts at Sotheby's Arts Institute in New York City and the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, DE; she is also a member of the National American Glass Club and a Trustee for The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass. After the talk, enjoy a reception and tour of Fire on the Mountain: Studio Glass in Western North Carolina.
